An Interesting Story on the Origins of Species

According to Darwin’s theory of evolution when structure arose in the primordial soup some animals evolved before the first plants ever existed. It’s interesting because due to some intuitive way of thinking I thought that should have been the reverse but you know; the universe and nature is under no obligation to make sense to us.

In general and based on anecdotal evidence it seems like animal evolution is the one that is mostly talked about but what about plants? What happened to them?

Here are just some interesting facts about plant evolution;

For some of them their best defensive mechanisms worked in a rather weird way. Many plants have developed really effective ways of protecting themselves from being eaten.

They got an ability to produce neurotoxins that would instantly kill insects, psychoactive agents that could nearly kill an animal and irritants powerful enough to be able to severely damage eyes and cause burning sensation in any tissue.

And at first it was great, all those natural poisons worked perfectly.

Until recently, only a few hundred years ago, some weird species started brewing them, smoking them and grinding them into dust to put in their meals. 😆

What was evolving for millions of years as a nearly perfect survival tool made peppers, Tobacco and Coffea very popular — and ensured their propagation as genera and species.
